The Affordable Truglo Tru-Tec Red Dot Sight (My Review)

best red dot sight under 200 dollars
Today, I’m going to be reviewing the Truglo Tru Tec 20mm Red Dot Sight.

This is an affordable micro red dot sight that comes from the trusted sight brand Truglo.

Even though it is affordable, this sight does includes some really neat features that make it stand out as a budget red dot option.

The Tru-Tec’s Battery Life…

The Truglo Tru-Tec has outstanding battery life.

Truglo advertises it as ultra long. So it is really unclear just how many hours of battery life you can expect.

But it does use one CR2032 battery life, and you can be sure that it is going to last for thousands of hours.

There are several brands of red dots that cost slightly less or slightly more than the Tru Tec, that have battery life that is inferior to this little optic.

The Tru-Tec’s Lens Clarity…

The Truglo Tru Tec has outstanding lens clarity.

When I look through the sight it appears to be very clear, and I don’t notice any blue or green tint the way I do with several other red dot sights.

Especially, many that are priced slightly lower than the truglo.

I’m very happy with the lens clarity, as it ranks up there with some sights that have a higher price tag.

The Tru Tec’s Dot Size And Reticle…

The Truglo Tru-Tec uses a simple 2 MOA dot reticle.

I really like smaller MOA dots on ret dot sights because I think they allow me to shoot with more precision and accuracy.

I find that larger sized dots like 4, 5 or 6 MOA just seem to cover up too much of my target.

Now on a reticle wit just a simple dot, I do think that 2MOA is the perfect size because it allows you to shoot accurately…

But it also isn’t too small so your eye can still pick it up quickly when you’re trying to shoot fast.

The Tru Tec’s Automatic On and OFF Feature…

best budget red dot for ar15
One of the coolest features about the Truglo Tru Tec is the ability to turn it’s self on and off at just the right time.

The website Red Dot shooters goes over this wonderful feature in great detail.

Basically, this red dot sight is programmed to automatically turn on when it senses movement.

So, if you were storing it in your gun safe and needed to grab your rifle really quickly, just grabbing your rifle would probably be enough to turn your sight on…

And you wouldn’t have to be messing around with any buttons.

In addition to that, the tru tec is programmed to automatically turn off after 8 hours of not being used.

And you can program it all the way down to 2 hours if you wanted too. This is a great feature to save more battery life on a sight that already gives you a lot of it.

The Tru Tec Comes With 2 Mounts…

Like many other quality, budget red dots, the truglo tru tec comes with 2 usable mounts.

It comes with a low mount, which is great for attaching it to any type of firearm that has a rail that sits closer to your eye. For example a shotgun with a picatinny rail on top.

But it also comes with a lower one-third co-witness mount, which makes it a great red dot sight for an ar 15.

I personally mounted my own to my ar15, and I’m pretty happy with the whole set up.

So, is the Truglo Tru-Tec Worthe Buying…

truglo red dot sight
Yes. The Truglo Tru Tec is an extremely high value red dot sight.

It comes with outstanding battery life, which I now expect, from any red dot sight worth giving my attention to.

It has the automatic on and off feature that helps you preserve your battery life even more and keeps your rifle pretty much ready to go with only a moment’s notice.

It has a crisp 2 MOA dot and clear glass lens, and it comes with 2 mounts.

I think the Truglo Tru Tec is the best red dot sight under 200 dollars that’s available right now.
